Rainer G. Popp
Rainer Gottfried Popp, 86, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on August 27, 2026 at home, surrounded by family. Funeral/memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 2nd at St John LaLande Parish in Blue Springs. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital or the Cancer Society.
Rainer was born on November 12, 1939, in Wurtzburg, Germany, the son of Gottfried and Betty Anna Popp. He completed his education in Germany before moving to the United States when he was 18. After settling in Missouri, he attended trade school and then joined the sheet metal union; working the trade until his retirement. In 1963, he married Barbara Roberts and they had two daughters, Michelle Renee and Michealina Anna. Rainer was a devoted family man and helped anyone in need. He loved NASCAR racing and collected model race cars. He was also an avid soccer player and fan. Rainer loved to build things, including the family home in Grain Valley. His memory will live on in the lessons he taught and the love he shared for everyone.
Rainer was preceded in death by his parents, Gottfried and Betty Anna Popp; and his three sisters, Rosemary Hopkins, Ruth Bonde, and Wilfriede Beaulieu.
His survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara; his daughter Michelle Smith and Ronnie; daughter Michealina Fairfield and Steve; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a great grand child due next spring.
