
Marilyn L. King
Marilyn L. King (age 94) of Independence, MO, passed away August 21, 2026. She was born January 28, 1932 to William and Elizabeth (nee Griebel) Stratemeier. In 1956, she married Howard Lee King of Marion, Illinois. They were married 53 years when Howard passed away in December 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and sisters Mildred Stratemeier, Martha Peak, Helen Stockham, Margaret Kracht and brother, Richard Stratemeier. She is survived by children Kevin King (Christina) and Karen Zuiderhof (David) of Independence MO; and Kyle King (Roxanne) of Blue Springs MO, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn graduated from Southeast High School and Kansas City Junior College. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and viewing sports programs – especially the Royals, Chiefs and Mizzou.
She was a long-time member of St. Luke’s United of Christ. Services will be at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main St, Independence MO on Saturday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. preceding the service. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery in Independence MO. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
